New Employee Family Building Benefits Continued
Last month we described employer contributions which include infertility payments for medical services and for prescription drugs used in infertility treatments. Some companies provide it whether or not there is a medical diagnosis showing infertility. That is a benefit aimed at same-sex couples.
Some employers are now providing financial benefits to couples and individuals to cover the costs of freezing eggs for later use. In addition, because of increases in the cost of adoption, some employers have increased the adoption subsidies they pay to employees to as much as $15,000 per child. Although the benefits are generous, the overall impact on an employer’s bottom-line is relatively minimal. A small percentage of employees of large companies actually receive family-building benefits.
